#DemocracyDrinks: Letters from Wolf Street

On Wednesday, 17 June, at 6:30 PM, join us for the final #DemocracyDrinks Vilnius of the season. This time, we are closing the season in a festive spirit, with film, conversation and good company. We will meet again in September.

Together with our partners, the film festival Inconvenient Films, we invite our community members, partners and neighbours to a cosy film evening featuring cinema that asks difficult questions. We will be screening the documentary Letters from Wolf Street by Arjun Talwar, 97 min.

More than a decade ago, Arjun, inspired by Polish cinema, left India to make a life in Poland. But finding a sense of belonging in a new country is not easy, even after many years. Together with his friend Mo, also an immigrant and filmmaker, he sets out to explore Wolf Street in central Warsaw. The street becomes an invisible thread connecting people and offering refuge from the loneliness of everyday life, from the melancholy and alienation so familiar to our part of the world.

Witty, sensitive and full of human warmth, the film offers a portrait of contemporary Polish society and invites us to reflect on migration, belonging and loneliness, openness to others, and the way our region relates to newcomers. It also leaves us with an open question: how do we build communities where everyone feels welcome and seen?

We believe that meaningful conversations begin with the ability to listen to other people’s stories. After the screening, Paulius Pakutinskas, film educator at Inconvenient Films Class, will invite us into a conversation. Together with Paulius, we will discuss the themes raised in the film and share our reflections, experiences, doubts and ideas on how to create a more open, welcoming and inclusive society.

So, an evening of film, conversation, music and a warm atmosphere awaits us in the courtyard of the Open Lithuania Foundation. After the film, we invite you to stay for light snacks, drinks and, of course, informal conversations.
