Can stories from the past inspire us to improve democracy today?

The event “Dialogues of Memory: Stories from the Transformation Period” on April 25th will invite 9-12th graders from Visaginas and Vilnius to discuss the post-Soviet transformation period and democracy. Based on family and city stories and forum theater performances, participants will explore how past experiences relate to young people’s views on democracy today. Participants will also have the opportunity to learn about three different experiences of witnesses who experienced the transformation to democracy, whose stories were recorded in 2023.

This event is part of the “Changing Democracies” project, which explores people’s stories and memories of communism, dictatorships, resistance and the transformation period from a European perspective, with the aim of creating a common memory space. 13 organizations from different European countries are involved in this European Union-funded project.
